NEW YORK--Oct. 2, 2006--AIG Private Client Group, a division of the personal lines property and casualty insurance subsidiaries of American International Group, Inc. (AIG), today announced the introduction of Residential Engineering Services.

Designed for owners of large, complex homes, this new complimentary service is intended to detect frequent causes of property damage before they can escalate into a catastrophic loss. Homes of this size are often equipped with complex electrical, heating and plumbing systems that are comparable to commercial properties. Traditional home inspections are not always adequate for these types of structures and as a result, equipment malfunction may go undetected until it's too late.

AIG Private Client Group's new Residential Engineering Services, conducted by an in-house engineer with nearly 30 years of commercial machinery inspection experience, includes:

  • An in-depth examination of all major mechanical systems, including but not limited to: electrical systems; air-conditioning; back-up electrical generators; heating systems; fire protection systems; home electronics; and alarm systems
  • A thermographic inspection using an infrared camera to reveal temperature variations behind walls or ceilings that are undetectable to the naked eye. These irregularities can indicate overheating within the home's electrical distribution system or moisture due to a leak or mold
  • A customized report detailing problem areas and recommendations to help the policyholder proactively mitigate the likelihood of loss

"Having the tools to uncover a loss before it occurs can save someone's home from catastrophic damage," said Stephen Poux, Vice President of Loss Prevention for AIG Private Client Group. "When you're dealing with residences valued in the tens of millions, this expertise is indispensable."

AIG Private Client Group's Residential Engineering Services can also help policyholders who are thinking of building a home avoid preventable losses in the future by suggesting the latest loss prevention technologies to incorporate into their design.

The Residential Engineering Services program is available to insureds whose residences are built with complex mechanical systems and have a replacement value of $10 million and up.
