|MATTHEW WINTER NAMED PRESIDENT AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF AIG AMERICAN GENERAL LIFE COMPANIES|

NEW YORK, Mar 03, 2006 -- American International Group, Inc. (AIG) has announced that Matthew Winter has been named President and Chief Executive Officer of AIG American General Life Companies (AIG American General). Mr. Winter, 49, succeeds Rodney O. Martin, Jr., AIG Executive Vice President - Life Insurance, who was named Chief Operating Officer of AIG's worldwide life insurance business earlier this year.
Mr. Winter joins AIG American General from MassMutual Financial Group, where he most recently served as Executive Vice President and head of the Individual Insurance Group. In that position he was responsible for the career agency system and the individual life insurance, annuity, disability income, long term care, large corporate markets and structured settlements businesses. Prior to joining MassMutual as a result of its merger with Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company, he ran Connecticut Mutual's compliance division. Before joining Connecticut Mutual in 1994 Mr. Winter practiced law, specializing in white-collar criminal defense and complex commercial litigation. He also completed the Advanced Management Program of the Harvard Business School.

Mr. Martin, 53, will continue to serve as Chairman of AIG American General in addition to his responsibilities as Chief Operating Officer of AIG's worldwide life insurance business.
