NEW YORK--June 21, 2005--American International Group, Inc. (AIG) has announced the following management appointments:
David L. Herzog has been named AIG Comptroller. He has also been elected an AIG Senior Vice President. He will report to Steven J. Bensinger, AIG Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.
Robert A. Gender has been named AIG Treasurer and elected an AIG Vice President. He will also report to Mr. Bensinger.
Mr. Herzog had served as Chief Financial Officer for AIG's Worldwide Life Insurance operations since 2004. Prior to that, he served as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of AIG's domestic life insurance companies, a position he held since the acquisition of American General Corporation in 2001. He was elected an AIG Vice President in 2003. Mr. Herzog joined American General in 2000 as Executive Vice President and CFO of its life division. Prior to that, he held a number of senior financial positions at General American Life Insurance Company and its parent, GenAmerica Corporation. He also held executive positions at Citicorp Life Insurance Companies and at Coopers & Lybrand.
Mr. Herzog holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and an M.B.A. in finance and economics from the University of Chicago. Additionally, he holds the designations of Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI).
Mr. Gender had previously served as AIG Assistant Treasurer since 2000, with principal responsibilities for managing AIG's banking relations, liquidity and corporate finance. Mr. Gender joined AIG in 1998 as Director of Financial Analysis in its Treasury Department. Prior to that, he had been Assistant Vice President in the Treasury Department of the Equitable Life Assurance Society, where he had served in various capacities since 1984.
Mr. Gender holds a B.A. from Stanford University and an M.B.A. in Finance from New York University's Stern School of Business.
