NEW YORK--April 13, 2004--American International Group, Inc. (AIG) has named David L. Herzog Chief Financial Officer for its worldwide life insurance operations. Mr. Herzog, who will continue to be based in New York, succeeds Nicholas A. O'Kulich. Mr. O'Kulich is retiring, and will continue to serve AIG in an advisory capacity.

Mr. Herzog was elected an AIG Vice President, Life Insurance in 2003 and prior to that was named Chief Operating Officer for AIG's combined domestic life insurance companies when AIG acquired American General Corporation in 2001.

Mr. Herzog joined American General in 2000 as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of its life division after holding a number of positions at General American Life Insurance Company, including Chief Financial Officer of GenAmerica Corporation, the parent company of General American. Prior to that he had been in executive positions at Citicorp Life Insurance Companies and Coopers & Lybrand. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a master's degree from the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business.
