NEW YORK --April 22, 2002--American International Group, Inc. (AIG) has issued the following statement regarding trading activity in its stock today:

AIG stock is trading down significantly. We have observed considerable short selling in the stock and have requested the New York Stock Exchange and the Securities and Exchange Commission to investigate this activity.
