AIG ELECTS KEVIN HOGAN AND JULIO PORTALATIN VICE PRESIDENTS

New York, January 18, 2001 - American International Group, Inc. (AIG) has announced that Kevin Hogan and Julio Portalatin have been elected AIG Vice Presidents-Foreign General Insurance.
Mr. Hogan will retain his title as President of the International Accident & Health Division of American International Underwriters (AIU), AIG's overseas property-casualty operation, a position he has held since 1998. Mr. Hogan, who joined AIG in New York in 1984, previously served as AIU's General Manager in Singapore and Regional Casualty Manager in Hong Kong.

Mr. Portalatin will retain his title as President of the AIU Personal Lines Division, a position to which he was named in 1996 after serving in Mexico as AIU Latin American Division Regional Vice President. Prior to that, he had served as President and General Manager of AIG Mexico Seguros Interamericana, S.A., AIG's Mexican property-casualty insurance company, and AIU Latin American Division Executive Vice President in New York. Mr. Portalatin joined AIG's Lexington Insurance Company in 1993.
