AIG UNIT APPROVED BY UNITED NATIONS TO OFFER MOTOR VEHICLE INSURANCE IN KOSOVO
NEW YORK, June 6, 2000 – American International Group, Inc. (AIG) has announced that AIG member companies have received approval from the United Nations Interim Administration Mission In Kosovo (UNMIK) to provide motor vehicle insurance to Kosovo residents.

UNMIK is currently administering the registration of motor vehicles in Kosovo and motorists must purchase insurance in order to complete the registration process. UNMIK officials have estimated that the total number of motor vehicles in Kosovo may be as many as 200,000.

“We are pleased to be working with the United Nations to assist with the motor vehicle registration process by providing residents of Kosovo with motor vehicle insurance,” said Martin Sullivan, AIG Executive Vice President, Foreign General Insurance. “We believe our long experience in operating in international markets will prove to be an asset to UNMIK.”
