NEW YORK, July 19, 2000 - AIG Consultants, Inc., a member company of American International Group, Inc. (AIG) has announced that its Healthcare Management Division (AIGC HM) has introduced AIG Caring AdvantageTM, a self-contained educational toolkit developed specifically for Long-Term Care facilities. AIG Caring AdvantageTM offers nursing homes an easy-to-use approach for educating employees about critical resident care issues that are the most common sources of resident injury and liability.

AIGC HM designed AIG Caring AdvantageTM with the most current injury prevention and risk management information available for the Long-Term Care industry. The program utilizes a modular approach, with each toolkit addressing a critical area that, when not efficiently managed from a safety and risk standpoint, can give rise to significant resident injuries and liability claims against Long-Term Care facilities. The first toolkit, currently available, is Prevention and Treatment of Pressure Ulcers. The next two toolkits, scheduled for release in the fall of 2000, are Principles for Documenting Clinical Records and Prevention of Patient Falls. Additional toolkits are scheduled for release in 2001.

Each AIG Caring AdvantageTM toolkit is designed to communicate and reinforce key concepts to employees by utilizing multiple training methods that may include a videotape, an employee in-service training presentation, educational booklets, posters and tip cards, as well as an employee training log. Information is presented through easy-to-understand text and graphics with a coordinated message across all toolkit components. In addition, AIG Caring AdvantageTM requires no development or preparation time to use, as even the employee in-service training presentation comes complete with presentation graphics and a fully scripted trainer narrative. All toolkit components are packaged within a permanent binder that can be used to store all materials.

In addition to providing AIG Caring AdvantageTM, AIGC HM offers assistance in developing and implementing additional communication and follow-up strategies for each toolkit. AIGC HMD also offers a variety of other services to support the risk management and quality management activities of the healthcare industry.

AIG Caring AdvantageTM is available free of charge to most Long-Term Care facilities that have professional liability insurance through AIG HealthcareSM, a division of the American International Companies. Organizations that do not have professional liability insurance through AIG HealthcareSM may purchase AIG Caring AdvantageTM.
